Kat is from Fort McMurray and is staying in Calgary while they repair her house after the forest fires that devastated the area. The week of the fires she was supposed to have her maternity photos, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
I was so happy to step in down here in Calgary. We took a trip out to Banff, AB to do this session. The beautiful scenery of Lake Minnewanka and Johnson Lake is unmistakable. The location she chose could not have been more perfect, and I feel so lucky that she brought me there.
Both her son and her mother came along to the session, and although her son was not keen to get in front of the camera, I think his natural reactions make the best photographs.
We talked about her excitement and nervousness about having a second child to wrangle and her love of Etsy. All outfits and props were beautiful for this session. It was a running joke for the session that her green dress made her dream of becoming The Little Mermaid come true. I love the shock of her beautiful red hair against the blue and greens of the backdrop.
We also got together to do gender reveal photos for her. Though all the tests mixed, she revealed that she was having a girl! And Owen, her son, would have a little sister.
